Kimono Fabric Production House Tour

The Hosoo family has produced kimono & obi fabric in Nishijin Kyoto since the Edo period.

The Hosoo familiy’s kimono fabrics are highly acclaimed around the world for their superb craftsmanship and unique patterns. Top end fashion producers combine these traditional Japanese textiles with creations of modern artistic fusions. Recently, the Italian textile designer, Louisa Cevese’s collaboration with Hosoo family and their fine fabrics appeared in the magazine "Women's Pictorial" (November 2011) as a feature article.

Recently it has become possible only for guests of our Sakura Ryokan to enjoy the unique opportunity to tour the Hosoo family`s production house. As a functioning wholesaler of renowned Kyoto Kimono fabrics this rebuilt Edo style Kyoto house is not open to tourism or general public, This is truly a rare opportunity for people of sincere interest to see such a production process.

This fall or winter, while visiting Kyoto, enjoy a tour of a set of workshops of long-established ceramics wholesalers and enjoy the atmosphere of the Hosoo family town house. All this made available to you by Sakura Ryokan. Enjoy your stay with us in Old Kyoto.
